Embrace the Arctic adventure! Join us in Northern Norway for a unique experience filled with polar dog sitting and rewarding farm tasks.
Opportunity of help exchange in the North – requirements & tasks
Escape to our charming farm nestled in the heart of Lakselv’s wilderness. We’re a nature-loving family eager to share our passion for animals and the outdoors. There’s always something exciting happening on the farm, and we’d be delighted to have you join us for an unforgettable experience.
Your days will be filled with:
- Essential dog care: Providing fresh water and food, grooming, and ensuring a clean and comfortable environment in the dog yard.
- Exciting outdoor adventures: Enjoying the stunning scenery alongside our energetic dogs through activities like bicycling, walking, skiing, or even the exhilarating experience of mushing.
- Kennel supervision: Ensuring the safety and well-being of all our canine companions.
You’ll also have the opportunity to contribute in other ways:
- Seasonal tasks: Helping with gardening in the summer or snow removal in the winter.
- Farm and forest work: Lending a hand with woodcutting, various farm chores, or assisting with tasks in the nearby forest.
- Animal care: Taking care of our chickens and maintaining their coop.
- Light housekeeping: Providing some assistance with cleaning around the house.
Working hours typically range from 3 to 5 hours per day, with weekends off for relaxation.
What to expect?
Greenlandic dogs are powerful and closely related to wolves. They are amazing animals but require physical strength to handle.
Working on our ranch is physically demanding, especially in winter. It’s dark for three months and the work is hard. This isn’t a relaxing vacation, expect lots of ranch and animal work.
Winters are dark, summers have the midnight sun.
You’ll be outside most of the time. Be prepared for all weather, even temperatures below -20 degrees Celsius.
Opportunity of help exchange in the North – what we offer
You’ll stay in your own comfortable hut. It doesn’t have running water, but toilets and showers are nearby. The hut is modern and clean, with a 120 cm bed that’s perfect for one or two people.
You’re welcome to join us in our free time if you’d like. We’re in a remote area, so there’s great hiking and beautiful nature all around.
We’ll provide food, but sometimes you might need to make your own meals because our schedule can be long and unpredictable.
