Healthcare volunteer work in rural India – requirements & tasks
At Swaminarayan Gokuldham Nar a dedicated team of a doctor, nurse, assistant, and driver operate our fully equipped mobile hospital. They visit five different villages daily. Our service is inclusive, available to all community members regardless of background. This committed team ensures efficient operation and continuity of care, building lasting relationships with patients.
Utilizing spaces like offices, temples, or even homes as temporary clinics, the team provides diagnosis, treatment, and basic medication for a nominal fee. All services are overseen by a lead program doctor.
We are looking for healthcare professionals with experience in primary care to join our local medical team. This rewarding opportunity allows volunteers to significantly improve the lives of those in remote areas.
The mobile clinic operates Monday through Saturday, departing the campus at 8:30 AM, returning for lunch and rest at 12:30 PM, and resuming services from 2:00 PM to 5:30 PM.
As a volunteer, you’ll gain firsthand experience in delivering primary healthcare to surrounding villages. This involves diagnosing conditions, offering preventive advice, and prescribing medications. You’ll work alongside local doctors, taking part in patient visits, measuring blood pressure, checking temperatures, and providing essential care to children and adults.
Beyond the mobile clinic, you’ll also contribute to the health and well-being of our 250 boarding school students and care home residents on campus. Additionally, you’ll have the unique opportunity to participate in our monthly high-tech prosthetic limb camp.
We value your input and encourage you to share your expertise in developing healthcare awareness materials and educational resources for our community. If you’re passionate about teaching, you can also engage with our students, promoting healthy habits, nutrition, exercise, and overall well-being.
You will work for about 30 hours per week.
